Emma Alves is a real legend! She was already featured in an entire podcast episode of Season 3 (click here to listen to it :)) She is an independent artist, singer-songwriter & producer and I am so proud of everything she already achieved and what awaits us on her journey!
After releasing her album ‘Up Late Writing This’, she is back with her new single ‘Winter’ and I absolutely love it!! Especially the transition in -18secs!! I am excited to see what Emma will bring us in the future and hope you enjoy reading this interview I’ve done with her!
Here she is: legend Emma Alves.
Bonnie Orbison: Introduce yourself a bit :)
Emma Alves: I’m Emma. I’m a singer-songwriter mainly but I dive into many areas of music creation. I’m from Vancouver, Canada and am a Virgo
Bonnie: What is the title of your upcoming song and when does it come out?
Emma: My newest song is called ‘Winter’. It’ll be out on February 25th!
Bonnie: Does the title have a special meaning?
Emma: Not really. It just felt like the right choice!
Bonnie: What inspired the track? What is the song about?
Emma: I tend to get pretty sad during the winter. I’m also not a huge fan of Christmas music. So, I kind of combined those two feelings and ‘Winter’ was created!
Bonnie: What did the process of making this song look like? How long did it take?
Emma: Some of my music friends were generous enough to collaborate on the track with me. We worked in a few different studio spaces during the recording process. I loved documenting their unique talents. It was inspiring.
Bonnie: Who worked with you on the song?
Emma: You can hear Noah Baker on guitar, Travis Regnier on drums, and Conrad Hillis on the bass. Conrad also helped with production and mixing; mastering was done by Chris Young.
Bonnie: What is your favorite lyric line from it?
Emma: Oouuu! Probably the phrase “cold in the winter.” It’s simple, but the way I sing the phrase gives me proud little Emma goosebumps!
Bonnie: Where is the perfect place to be for listening to the single for the first time?
Emma: Maybe in a car, or on some decent headphones.
Bonnie: Is there a music video to it?
Emma: Maybe! Some ideas are in the works but that’s a secret for now.
Bonnie: Any honorable mentions you wanna make?
Emma: Conrad Hillis was a huge help on this track! He doesn’t give himself enough recognition.
Bonnie: If you’d have to put the song on a playlist with 5 other songs, which would they be?
Winter is out now on all streaming platforms!
