This week’s music releases felt like one good soup with all genres and sounds together. Many anticipated EP and album releases happened this Friday, including Frances Mistry, Dafna and Chloe Slater (individual reviews + interviews are coming out soon to all of them!) and I definitely was able to add new favorite tracks to my playlist to dance underneath disco light in my bedroom.
Itinerary of this week’s post:
Introduction
Review of Little Splinters (Ok Cowgirl) & como una foto (julia amor)
Honorable Mention: LPs & EPs
Review of Nashville (MisterMoon), Closer To Me (The Shivas) & What I Need (rainbow frog biscuits)
podcast episodes coming out this week at Bonnie’s Legends
upcoming music releases (with pre-save links)
extra: an underrated album to listen to :)
My top five tracks of this week were Ok Cowgirl’s Little Splinters, julia amor’s como una foto, MisterMoon’s Nashville, The Shiva’s Closer To Me and rainbow frog biscuits’ What I Need. Enjoy :)
#1: Ok Cowgirl - Little Splinters
Need a new anthem to rage and run under street lights at night feeling like in a music video? Ok Cowgirl (of course, I listen to a band called Ok Cowgirl) has just released Little Splinters that is the form of anticipating rock that needs to be listened on full volume. During that point of night when your sleepless thought spirals take a turn and drive you insane. It’s screaming “I’m ready to hit a wall with my fist, but I’m cute.” Love how they emphasize on today’s normal action to post a picture to just get the attention of one person in their lyric “Posted a topless pic / Call it an attention grab / To be well liked can feel so small / When you just want one to love your all”
I don’t want you to need me
just want you to please my every whim
#2: julia amor - como una foto
The very first night at Primavera Sound Barcelona 2023 (this must be about a year ago actually!) I danced through my shirt to julia amor. Her mix of Lana Del Rey synths, eccentric beats and a voice like an angel makes her music addictive and needs to be played under a spotlight of disco lights. como una foto takes one through a time capsule, feeling nostalgic to those places one has once been and know they will never be the same again.
Vivo en un recuerdo
y mis manos buscan el calor
un lago cristalino, un soplo de emoción

#3: MisterMoon - Nashville
The Nashville-based duo MisterMoon (Leah Colon & Savs) same-titled debut EP is filled with soul-filling hope core about journeys of self-discovery and love. The last track Nashville sounds like a homage to their hometown, how the essential part of connecting with someone is the sense of belonging. Grab a cup of tea and enjoy the harmonies of the two alongside an acoustic guitar and a cello.
and I was trying to keep the fire burning
with only me by my side
but it rains a lot in Nashville
#4: The Shivas - Closer To Me
Announcing their 10th album with the single release of Closer To Me, The Shivas stay true to their known sound and also bring in a fresh breeze for the upcoming hot summer. Pressing play on Closer To Me makes one feel teleported back into some green backyard in the late 1960s. It’s like The Beach Boys and The Doors had a baby. If you were looking for a better-fitting anthem to start into the approaching June, take a listen to Closer To Me and make sure to keep your ears open for Can’t Stop Coming Around. Personally, I feel like I secured the album to listen to while strutting down hot asphalt streets.
Come on and get
A little closer to me
Who do you love
You wanna go out and see?
#5: rainbow frog biscuits - What I Need
Trying to get some feet into the unclear waters of today’s dating world? Confusion in your heart and head, not sure what all these feelings mean to you about someone specific? rainbow frog biscuits is known to specialize in songs about love, having graced us with the banger Stupid Yesterday previous Valentine’s Day, has returned with another track called What I Need. Counting up the many moments where pieces of one’s peaceful heart gets disturbed by those heartbeats for maybe love itself. Lay down on a meadow (grass patches in London’s parks are fine as well), put your headphones on and press play on the new single. I promise you’ll feel more assured cause you know what you want and what you need ;)
every time the wind blows
I could swear it speaks to me
says the thing it knows
I want almost in secrecy
and when I try to go to sleep at night
you infiltrate my dreams
