🖊️ introduction to Groover + what it is:
Beginning of May, I had a message request in my DMs on bonnieslegends. That usually means two things: musicians telling me about their new release or musicians asking to be on my podcast. Surprisingly, it was neither. Groover, a platform connecting media with labels/artists, reached out to me, interested in having me represented as a music curator. Of course, I was hyped about it. A few days after a call, sending them my statistics + setting up a profile, I was in!
Twice a month, I’ll be sharing with you tracks that either are new music releases or music recommendations, that have been submitted to me through Groover. If you want to receive guaranteed feedback and sharing not only from me, but also other media outlets, radio stations and podcasts, sign up here!
📀 new album & EPs releases:
She Deserves Love by Janus 4-14 — a band formed in 2009, expanding their sound into what now gives off garage band meets classic rock meets indie singer-songwriter.
Never Break Me by Kremidas — as a country lover, I always try to find the unique magic; the background vocal harmonising perfectly in this track + this mix is an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Messy Blessed Infinity by Erika Lundahl — Lundahl’s immaculate voice immediately spoke to me, alongside the lyrics. The song is so well structured, starting with the voicemail-esque beginning and more. Definitely give this album a spin this week!
Light Darkness by Hosei Lawees — instrumental tracks completely created by the art of improvisation with Santana or The Who-esque guitar riffs. You can definitely hear Lawees’ heart in this.
Rhythm & Rhyme by Brian Junker-Latocha — I kept dancing in my chair while listening to the entire album, especially Love Me for a Minute. This has country singer-songwriter quality and the best comparison I could it nail down was Merle Haggard! There is a full burst of energy in Junker-Latocha’s voice + real claps.
💿 new song releases:
Stau nach Italien by farbfilter. — I appreciate to hear a really good German rock song with funny and witty lyrics that was released nowadays. I mean we are in desperate need of it!
Mr. Conductor Man by Therwsmith — a song that makes you feel like you’re in the room with the band + traditional-sounding guitar riffs moving alongside the entire track.
Anxietika by Chiffon Magnifique — there’s something about a good duet, a power between two voices supporting the message of this song plus bringing in actual real 1980s synths energy to it.
July by Jana Leona — immerse into a world with reflecting relatable song lyrics; such as "with the flowers you bought from a cheap corner store" and indie rock-guitars.
Inga Hauser by KEELEY — KEELEY’s working on an entire album dedicated to the tragic story of Inga Hauser, which I admire a greatly. Listen to the story, accompanied with 80s synths.
I Can’t Go On by Stefano Zalla — Synths sounding perfect for summer vibes & especially very well-mixed drums. And a song about our immense phone screen time? Hell yeah!
Don’t Change by Seth Hancock & Michael Haney — A good cover is an accomplishment and Hancock and Haney definitely achieved it with their take on INXS’ Don’t Change with an Americana/Country twist + beautiful violins in the background.
Foggy Mirror by Rose Bente — Songs that got inspired by parents' divorces kinda deserve their own category. This is an absolute groovy dancing track, so let’s dance our trauma away!
Devil In Blue by DUPLEXITY — enjoying rock/punk + witty lyrics on therapy? This is definitely a track where the vocals are powerfully underlining the dominant guitar riffs.
The Lady by the Side of the Road by JunkHeap — this guitar-driven track would’ve been on my Dad’s cassette in the late '70s, that later, me, his daughter, would acclaim to be hers now.
Hundred Acre Hill by David Stone — The song has got a great underlining melancholia. This is definitely a song to listen to while driving at dawn through your next small town.
Yum by Emergency Tiara — Wanna find music that can be described as a mix of Kate Bush, Sade and David Bowie? Yum is perfect in that case.
PS: the lyrics going he was just a boy who played the drum set of a small town band. i never got his name, but i like better that way. definitely reminded me of my poetry collection Pretty Tennessee that is filled with nameless cowboys playing the drums of my heartbeat - give it a read!
📼 new tracks with music videos:
House by the Sea by Santans — looking for an artist with vibes that are a mix between Men I Trust & Tame Impala? Watch the music video + listen to that guitar solo at 2.30.
Beautiful People by Hackmonocut — think of a lovechild of Joy Division, Johnny Cash and Depeche Mode + vocals familiar with the sound of Roy Orbison? Fans of sad music, this one is yours.
Wedding Cake by No Sailor — describing themselves as "Hillbilly-Baroque Indie Folk", creating absolute stunning visuals, give this seemingly-joyful song with lots of drama in the lyrics a listen.
Break Even by Larochelle — Rather looking for an indie version of Vampire Weekend? A song and music video just like This Life, leading the listener through a visual landscape + harmonies that are gonna ask you: Did we break even?
So Long Gone by Elizabeth Sheppard — First thought I had when I listened to this was that I need to share this with my Mum. She's a huge fan of Olivia Newton-John and had been so sad that she left this Earth a couple of years ago. Your voice and singing style reminded me of hers greatly. I appreciated the lyrics on a feeling so common as you've described it.
✨ the end:
This is a pretty good selection + can’t wait to listen to all the upcoming submission that’ll come my way through Groover.
Thank you for reading this article and I hope you leave with a lot of new artists to spin on either your next drive at dawn or bedroom dancing session or simply just now with your headphones on :)
This entire week is dedicated to showcase all new released music tracks, so come back tomorrow to read about all EPs & LPs releases that caught my attention in July.
