This article entails a written review of Tanzana’s debut single “Covet” as well as pictures taken of on the night of their performance at King Tut’s in Glasgow.
Tanzana - Covet
After interviewing and staying in touch with Katie and Sarah from Two-Headed Calf (listen to our episode here), Katie sent me through the ticket link to a gig at King Tut’s wah wah hut. I planned my trip to Glasgow and was on the hunt for a fun night out and yes, I got served what I wanted. As a music journalist, who’s always on the lookout for the next cool indie band, I, of course, loved Tanzana and excitedly awaited their debut single ‘Covet’. I also asked to meet them before the concert to take photos of them. See all of them below.
Covet is everything and more as to what I expected. A band that never posted snippets or teasers on social media, only relying on their loyal live audiences that has seen them play around Glasgow since they founded about a year ago. I was very impressed and very excited to finally hear what they’re able to deliver to their listener’s ears. ‘Covet’ hit like a lightning.
There’s an anticipation audible in the song itself. From the slow and mysterious beginning to the hard-hitting guitar riff repeatedly melting in the background to a rockgaze loud chorus singing, almost chanting, the lyrics almost like a spell.
Covet
Everything
I know it’s the end
Covet
I know it’s the end
Of everything
Especially as right before the end of the song, we are getting promised that we’re safe from harm, we’re preserved in a jar.
The song is a classic genius debut single, even more after having seen them live now, I know that their repertoire of songs are genre-fluid spanning every possible corner of music. I think we’re gonna hear Tanzana from every train neighbour’s headphones soon.
