The first time I ever thought of myself as a music writer or journalist was the afternoon I found out about David Bowie’s death. Seflishly, at the age I was in back then, I remember having the thought “Oh no, I didn’t even get to talk to him.” which persisted to haunt me following the years. Until I shared a conversation with Tim in 2019, who told me I would be a good interviewer. Exactly a year after that, grieving Tim’s presence in my life, I started my podcast and for the very first time ever asked the question “Who is your legend?”. Six years and growing, I still ask the same question and you, listener, are still tuning in to hear whoever next I bring onto the podcast, who might be a legend of some sort.
We’ve expanded onto a radio show playing new music and Bob Dylan tracks every Sunday 7-8PM Paris time, written interviews with Chappell Roan and album reviews talking about Maggie Rogers, lastly we have a social media presence where daily picks are being presented to you to enhance your growing music library as well as make music discovery in a world of algorithms easier for you. Cause everything you see created here by me, Bonnie Orbison, for Bonnie’s Legends and for my other projects, such as my Substack Cowgirl @ Core, my fiction books, my publishing company and magazine The Cry Lounge, is all human-made. I consider myself a grand sci-fi fan, but under no circumstances do I believe the minds of Roddenberry and Huxley thought human beings would start destroying their own home base and trade their boredom of normal Google searches and writing a birthday card by themselves, for artificial usages.
Anyways, mentioning this I also under no circumstance wanna feature and review AI-generated music; my ears have become pretty good at deciphering the differences already and in most cases it’s pretty obvious if a song came from a prompt or from an artist’s heart, therefore I do also trust you to submit only human-created songs, which you can do now also! I have and will continue to work with some submission platforms, but at the end of the day wanted to offer a way to send your song directly to me. I do charge 2€ per submission, so if you send me your next single, EP or album, I don’t care, I need to make sure I can pay my rent and feed my desire to purchase physical music too, and after my experiences with the music industry, I have learned that most platforms charge a way higher fee, where I, the curator, end up only getting a scrap from it, as you know artists are getting the same treatment. With that submission, I can add your song onto our new music playlist, updated weekly, play on my radio show, etc. I do offer written feedback just for you too, as well as my other services such as social media content, release strategy and/or Substack consultings.
Now onto the future of the podcast: I have an archive of unreleased interviews I recorded over the last year whose attraction you will soon be able to listen to, as well as always recording and meeting new artists or old friends to come back onto the podcast. I am bringing in some solo episodes, such as this one, where I discuss individual legend’s legacies, go more in depth about certain album releases and at the end of each month, gift you a written or audio version of highlighting the new music, so that you’re always on the greener and cooler side of the music world as well as can send your friends the best new recommendations too.
Alrighty, I’ll see you soon, partners!
My name is Bonnie Orbison, and this is Bonnie’s Legends.
I’m not related to the great Roy, I did spend a chunk of my teenage years sobbing to Cryin’ though, which probably made me write such incredibly sad stories in the first place, that ended up having to be published under the name The Cry Lounge . If you’re looking for a new literary magazine, filled with book reviews, thoughts on life and dying and crying, feel free to check out The Cry Lounge, the place you’re going to find your next heartbreak. Stay safe from cowboys!
